AB - The need was identified for a relatively large test facility which could be used to reduce the risk in OWC turbine development, by enabling the performance of turbines to be evaluated under more representative - but nevertheless controlled - conditions. The overall objective was to have a system which enabled the various trade-offs within the power extraction system, and perhaps most importantly the effect of irregular flow conditions on performance to be evaluated. This paper describes the design and development of such a facility and presents some results for a datum turbine design.
