AB - This study extends and updates a chapter in the book edited by Joao Cruz entitled Ocean Wave Energy: Current Status and Future Perspectives, Cruz (Ocean wave energy: current status and perspectives, Springer, Berlin, 2008). It outlines laboratory techniques and results from the first work on wave energy, which led to the Edinburgh duck. It then describes some of the work done on later devices at Edinburgh University. Some of the results and ideas for power conversion, component testing, and installation may be relevant to other wave energy designs and may help future generations of wave inventors to save time and avoid expensive mistakes.
