The AusYCSEC mission is to connect, foster, and showcase the next generation of coastal scientists and engineers in Australasia.
This conference brings together those working across the broad remit of coastal geoscience, engineering, and management — a field that explores the physical processes and environmental changes occurring at the land–sea interface. It encompasses geomorphology, sedimentology, oceanography, subdisciplines of engineering, and natural resource management, among many others.
AusYCSEC is designed for the next generation of coastal scientists and engineers. Whether you’re an undergraduate student taking your first steps into coastal research, a postgraduate student advancing your knowledge, or an early- to mid-career researcher establishing your place in the field, this conference provides the space to connect, collaborate, and grow.
The conference welcomes participants from all sectors — academia, government, private industry, and not-for-profit, and invite everyone contributing to the coastal domain to share their ideas and innovations shaping our shores.
Experienced researchers and academics are also encouraged to attend in a mentoring and supporting capacity. Your guidance and engagement with emerging scientists and engineers play a vital role in building a connected and thriving coastal community, and we are confident that the breadth and quality of emerging research will make this a rewarding experience for attendees at every career stage.
Who should attend?
- Final year undergraduate and postgraduate students
- Early to mid-career researchers with support from senior researchers
- Young professionals, with support from established practitioners
- Coastal scientists, engineers, and practitioners working in the not-for-profit sector
- Senior researches and established practitioners who have an interest in providing mentoring opportunities in research and in practice
- University, government and industry representatives, looking to promote research and career opportunities and network with upcoming academics, researchers, and practitioners.
- Anyone new to working or studying in coastal geoscience or engineering
The 2026 conference will feature a Central Hub in Newcastle, NSW, supported by a network of Local Hubs across Australia and New Zealand, bringing together early-career coastal scientists and engineers from across the region.
In Person Participation
The Central Hub and Local Hubs will offer many great opportunities for networking and interacting. This is an excellent opportunity to connect in person with events including poster sessions, field trip, conference social events, speed networking and more. Presenters will deliver at the hub they attend or online with it being broadcast to all hubs and online participants.
Online Participation
Those participating online will be provided with links to each session located on the program after registering.
