Geological Institute of Romania

The Geological Institute of Romania, National Research-Development Institute in the field of Geology, Geophysics, Geochemistry and Remote Sensing, was established in 1906 by Royal Decree, signed by His Majesty King Carol I of Romania, in order to fulfill the duties of a geological service nationally, after in 1902 the geologist Valeriu Popovici-Hațeg drew up a detailed report on the need for research and supervision of the geological structure to streamline the management of natural resources in the country.
