OCEANTEC
OCEANTEC is a leading company in technological development for the deployment of wave energy converters marine parks and was the first Spanish company to connect its own collector prototype to the network in the marine environment. OCEANTEC was acquired by IDOM in 2018.
OCEANTEC identified the oscillating water column concept as the most effective due to its simplicity, minimal number of components, scalability and low generation cost. Their development has resulted in a collector of the point absorber type capable of harnessing the energy of the waves and based on the principle of the oscillating water column. After an initial numerical modeling and a preliminary collector design, canal tests were carried out with a first prototype at 1:25 scale. The design and modeling was validated by DNV. This converter, MARMOK-A-5, is a low power device (30kW) with dimensions of five meters in diameter, forty-two meters high and a weight of approximately 80 tons.
