SRP was initially created in April 2005 with a view to developing marine energies, and primarily wave energy. The beginning of the work of SRP, self financed by the founder Philippe Marconnet, led SRP to select a supplier of wave energy converter. The technological advance of Pelamis Wave Power (PWP) being the most satisfactory, and the most proven, SRP signed a distribution agreement in early 2006 for the South Pacific zone (excluding Australia and New Zealand), then extended to Réunion and to Mauritius.
