Abstract
In the previous chapters, wind turbines and wave-energy converters are separately explained. Land-based wind turbines and their key components as well as offshore wind turbines are discussed. Examples of existing projects for both fixed and floating wind turbines are given while the main supporting structures for the offshore wind industry are introduced. The wave-energy converters and their main categories are explained, and some examples of current projects in the world are mentioned. This chapter focuses on the hybrid marine platforms in which the wave- and wind-energy devices are combined to use the possible synergy effects and reduce the cost of electrical energy from offshore units while increasing the quality of the delivered power to the grid.
This is a book chapter in Offshore Energy Structures: For Wind Power, Wave Energy and Hybrid Marine Platforms.
