Abstract
Numerical and experimental analyses of a class of wave-absorbing devices were performed over a four-year period at The University of Michigan. The particular type of device consists of one or two thin, vertical flaps, arranged to respond in sway or roll motion, pivoted about an axis in the plane of the flap. The general results of these studies, particularly with regard to engineering guidance for further prototypes, are reviewed here.
