Waves to Water Prize ADAPT Stage Winners: Team Water Duck

Abstract

Engineers from Water Duck come from California companies IProTech and Spectra Watermaker. Their Water Duck System uses a slack mooring to allow the device to pitch back and forth. Inside, a coil moves with the waves, creating energy to push water through a reverse osmosis membrane and remove the salt. Because the Water Duck uses almost no moving parts or mechanical components, the system is designed to better withstand ocean storms and longer deployment periods.
