Maintenance
Work done on a device after it is operational.
Maintenance activities, or work done on a device after it is operational, may involve cleaning the surface of a device, replacing device components, or refilling hydraulic fluids. Such work can typically be conducted by divers, underwater robots, or by temporarily removing the device from the water. However, device deployment in highly energetic offshore environments can make regular maintenance costly and challenging. Nevertheless, continued maintenance of marine renewable energy devices is especially important as varying operating speeds and loads, corrosion, and other structural stresses represent significant threats to device survivability and performance.
