National Institute of Metrological Research (INRiM)

The National Institute for Metrological Research (INRiM) is a national public scientific research body supervised by the Ministry of University and Research , which carries out the functions of the national metrological institute for Italy, constituting the garrison of a large part of metrology , the science of measurements.

INRiM creates, maintains, and develops national reference standards for the seven base units of the International System (SI) —meter , kilogram , second , ampere , kelvin , mole , and candela —and their respective derived units. Through these standards, it ensures the reliability of measurements at the national level and their comparability internationally.

INRiM promotes research and the development of excellent infrastructures, focusing on enabling and/or emerging technologies addressing the challenges of today's society as proposed in European, national, and regional programs. Furthermore, it enhances, disseminates, and transfers knowledge and research results with the aim of fostering the country's development in all its aspects.
