National Institute of Nuclear Physics (Istituto Nazionale di Fisica Nucleare; INFN)

The National Institute of Nuclear Physics (Istituto Nazionale di Fisica Nucleare; INFN) is the Italian body dedicated to the study of the fundamental constituents of the subject and carries out research, both theoretical and experimental, in the fields of subnuclear, nuclear and astroparticle physics.

INFN was established on 8 August 1951 by groups from the Universities of Rome, Padua, Turin and Milan in order to continue and develop the scientific tradition that began in the 1930s with the theoretical and experimental research of nuclear physics by Enrico Fermi and his school.
