In 2016, SINTEF Ocean combined the research, laboratories and employees linked to MARINTEK, SINTEF Fisheries and Aquaculture and the Department of Environmental Technology at SINTEF Materials and Chemistry.
The Norwegian Marine Technology Research Institute (MARINTEK) performed research and development for companies in the field of marine technology. MARINTEK was a company in SINTEF, the largest independent research organization in Scandinavia, and developed and verified technological solutions, business and operating concepts for the shipping, marine equipment, ocean energy and petroleum industries.
MARINTEK’s headquarters and laboratories were in Trondheim, Norway. 200 people from 24 different countries worked together in MARINTEK in order to develop ocean space technology for the future.
