Wuhan Polytechnic University (WHPU)
Wuhan Polytechnic University (WHPU), abbreviated as WHPU, is located in Wuhan City, Hubei Province, and is administered by the Hubei Provincial Department of Education. It is the earliest institution in China dedicated to cultivating specialized talents for the grain industry, and is a key co-construction university jointly supported by the National Food and Strategic Reserves Administration and the Hubei Provincial People's Government. It is also a Hubei Double First-Class University and one of the first batch of undergraduate enrollment institutions in Hubei Province.
In 1951, the Wuhan Accounting Secondary Technical School was established. After several name changes and adjustments, it developed into the Wuhan Grain Industry Junior College in January 1960. In May 1972, the school was renamed the Hubei Grain School, and in December 1978, it was renamed the Wuhan Grain Industry School. In May 1993, it was renamed the Wuhan Food Industry College. In May 1999, the school was named Wuhan Polytechnic College. In August 2000 and November 2003, the Wuhan Transportation Health School and the Hubei General Technology Engineering School were successively integrated into the college. In 2013, it was named Wuhan Polytechnic University. Since 2014, it has participated in the Excellence in Agriculture and Forestry Education Program. In 2018, it became a co-construction university jointly supported by the National Food and Strategic Reserves Administration and the Hubei Provincial People's Government, and was selected as a Hubei Double First-Class University
As of April 2026, Wuhan Polytechnic University has two campuses: Changqing Garden and Jinyin Lake. The total building area of the campus is 610,000 square meters. The total value of teaching and scientific research equipment is 701 million yuan. The library collections consist of over 2.2 million volumes of printed literature and over 2.37 million volumes of e-books. The university comprises 18 teaching colleges (departments) and offers 69 undergraduate programs (with 57 currently enrolling students). It has 1 First-level Discipline Doctoral Program, 14 First-level Discipline Master's Programs, 14 Master's Professional Degree Categories, and 4 Self-established Interdisciplinary Master's Programs. The university employs over 1,400 full-time teachers. As of December 2024, the university has 22,173 full-time students.
