Abstract
This paper introduces a technique for smoothing the output power from permanent magnet synchronous generator (PMSG) marine current energy conversion system (MCECS) integrated with flywheel energy storage system (FESS). The charging and discharging modes of flywheel energy storage system are used to manage the power flow between the dc link and the grid. One of the new metaheuristic techniques called crowbar search algorithm (CSA) has been used for optimally selecting the parameters of the different PI controllers in the system. These parameters are determined by using the eigenvalues of the matrix A of the state space model developed for the complete system. Simulation results for 1.5 MW PMSG marine current turbine connected with 1.5MW/10MJ FESS is performed to obtain the authenticate the performance of the system.
