Abstract
This paper investigates the performance of the numerical tool-box OpenFOAM for free surface flows using the finite volume method together with the volume of fluid for modelling two phase flows in coastal engineering situations. A large scale oscillating water column (OWC) geometry is modelled in two-dimensions (2D) and validated against experimental data putting emphasis on the chamber behaviour and especially the loads exerted on the structure carapace induced by a near-shore irregular sea state.
