University of Southern Mindanao

The University of Southern Mindanao, formerly known as the Mindanao Institute of Technology (MIT), was founded by Bai Hadja Fatima Matabay Plang, a Muslim educator and philanthropist. It officially began operations on October 1, 1954, and achieved university status on March 13, 1978, through Presidential Decree No. 1312. USM is one of the leading state universities in the Philippines, particularly noted for its contributions to agricultural education and research.
