Abstract
This report provides an analysis background to a preliminary tidal current resource inventory for Canadian waters completed for Phase 1 of the Canada Ocean Energy Atlas Project. The estimated tidal current energy for Canada is the total potential resource available in tidal
flows. The estimates are “potential” resources NOT “economically realisable” resources. At this early stage of the Ocean Atlas development, energy calculations are based on preliminary estimates of existing tidal flows and no consideration has been given to the following factors:
- Environmental Impacts
- Technological developments and limitations in tidal power extraction
- Climate related factors (e.g., ice, global climate change)
- Site location versus power grid accessibility and power demand
- Hydrogen economy developments
- The effect of potential energy extraction schemes on existing flow conditions
- Economic factors.
Canada Ocean Energy Atlas (Phase 1) Potential Tidal Current Energy Resources Analysis Background is located in Canada.
