Abstract
This report summarizes work accomplished to date on a project entitled, "Anchor Systems for Proposed Ocean Thermal Energy Conversion Power Plants (OTEC)." The Civil Engineering Laboratory (CEL) was to provide performance characteristics of existing anchors, estimated performance characteristics of enlarged versions of these anchors, and predicted performance characteristics of new anchors devised under this study. The work is sponsored by the Division of Solar Energy of the U.S. Energy Research and Development Administration (ERDA). The first progress report (Valent et al., 1976a) defines probable OTEC anchor environments; specifies upper limits of required holding capacity; and groups all possible seafloor sites into five categories based on soil characteristics.
