China Southern Power Grid Co., Ltd. is an important state-owned backbone enterprise under the central government, and the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the State Council performs the duties of the investor. The company is responsible for investing, building and operating the southern regional power grid, participating in the investment, construction and operation of related cross-regional power transmission and transformation and networking projects, and providing power supply service guarantees for the five provinces and regions of Guangdong, Guangxi, Yunnan, Guizhou and Hainan, as well as Hong Kong and Macao; engaging in power purchase and sales business, responsible for power trading and dispatching; engaging in domestic and foreign investment and financing business; independently carrying out foreign trade circulation operations, international cooperation, foreign engineering contracting and foreign labor cooperation and other businesses.

The company's headquarters has 20 functional departments including offices, as well as the Southern Grid General Dispatching Department; it manages five branches, including the Southern Grid Ultra-High Voltage Company, the Southern Grid Party School, the Southern Grid Beijing Branch, the Southern Grid Shared Operation Company, and the Southern Grid User Ecological Operation Company; 13 wholly-owned subsidiaries, including the Guangdong, Guangxi, Yunnan, Guizhou, and Hainan Power Grid Companies, Shenzhen Power Supply Bureau, Southern Grid Industrial Investment Group, Dingyuan Asset Company, Southern Grid Capital Holding Company, Southern Grid International Company, Southern Grid Digital Group, Southern Grid Supply Chain Group, and Southern Grid Energy Institute; and 9 holding subsidiaries, including Southern Grid Energy Storage Company, Southern Grid Energy Company, Southern Grid Finance Company, Dinghe Insurance Company, Southern Grid Lancang-Mekong International Company, Southern Grid Research Institute, Guangzhou Power Exchange Center, Southern Grid Media Company, and Southern Grid Beijing Research Institute.
