University Marine Energy Research Community (UMERC)
The University Marine Energy Research Community (UMERC) is a U.S. Department of Energy Water Power Technologies Office sponsored program that is coordinated by the Pacific Ocean Energy Trust (POET). UMERC will foster collaboration within the U.S. marine energy research community and amplify the impacts of foundational research. UMERC is focused on research conducted in the U.S. but includes international liaisons. While all non-federal research institutions are represented in UMERC, the organization is focused on university research, and especially increasing knowledge transfer between universities, national laboratories, and industry. This focus draws on the important resource that universities present in terms of foundational research in the marine energy sector which, unlike DOE national laboratories and private industry, currently has no unifying organization.
Learn more about UMERC on the UMERC Signature Project page on the Portal and Repository for Information on Marine Renewable Energy (PRIMRE).
