Extreme Events

Events such as hurricanes, storms, rogue waves, and tsunamis.

Extreme events are weather events that are typically unpredictable, unusual, or severe such as hurricanes, storms, rogue waves, and tsunamis. In the context of marine renewable energy, extreme events are typically discussed in relation to a device’s survivability and structural design. Although the marine renewable energy industry has benefited from other offshore industries, understanding the peak forces and loads a device can endure is key when operating it in potentially harsh operating conditions.
