Mocean Energy is developing a hinged-raft ocean wave energy converter (WEC). The development is supported primarily through projects funded by Wave Energy Scotland.
It's estimated that worldwide, there is 2.11 TW of average nearshore wave power. 1% of that resource could
- power 55 million homes
- save 10 thousand tonnes of CO2 per year
- be worth £10 billion
In addition to electricity, wave energy is well suited for desalinating sea water. Considering that 780 million people around the world do not have access to safe water and droughts in California have had devastating environmental and economic consequences, a renewable technology that could cheaply transform sea water into fresh water would have a massive global impact.
Tethys Engineering is a knowledge hub that contains documents and resources about the technical aspects of marine energy development. The table below contains all of the documents in the Tethys Engineering Knowledge Base associated with Mocean Energy.
