Markets and potential applications for marine renewable energy other than commercial electricity generation.

Alternative markets (or maritime markets) refers to the range of markets and potential applications for marine renewable energy other than commercial electricity generation, where a relatively cheap levelized cost of energy prohibits competition from a new industry without subsidy or power purchase at a premium. Examples of these alternative markets include isolated community grids, desalination, shoreline protection, ocean observations, UUV/AUV recharge, and aquaculture.
