Mooring

Cables and anchors that hold a device in place.

A device’s mooring system typically consists of the cables and anchors used to hold the device in place, either floating along the surface or submerged within the water column. The function and type of mooring system is typically determined by a number of factors, including cost, site characteristics, and expected load. There are many similarities in the materials used in and the structural design of mooring systems used in the oil and gas, floating offshore wind energy, and marine renewable energy industries. Mooring chains or synthetic ropes may be anchored to the seafloor using suction anchors, driven piles, or gravity foundations.
